This antique Rolex has to date to 1915-17, given the styling of the case, hallmarks and movement used.

The solid sterling silver case hinges front and back, similar to small pocket watches of the period. Many of these early models are in fact converted pocket watches with wire lugs soldered onto the cases.

Inside this case are hallmarks showing the famed Rolex branding as well as the less known but earlier brand name of Wilsdorf and Davis, the original name for the company now known as Rolex.

The movement is an early Rolex model which surprisingly keeps pretty good time. The dial is an original porcelain unit with aged luminous material for the Arabic hours markers and hands. there is a faint shadow of a hairline down the centre of the dial which only seems to show up in the photos and is not noticeable in person.

The watch represents the early history of this now famed brand and makes quite a statement on the wrist as a wearable piece of horological history.

The case measures 34 mm wide and 10.5 mm thick including the crystal.
