Name:
Vintage Lord Elgin watch with Asymetrical case.

Short Description:
Wonderful gold filled Asymetrical case with pink dial and high grade manual wind movement.

Long Description:

A very stylish design by Lord Elgin dating to the 1950's.

The Asymetrical case is wider at the top of the watch and narrows towards  the bottom end at 6 o'clock. The case is 10 karat gold filled and does not have any wear through on the capping.

The real story of this watch is the design and significance of the movement in the watch. in the late 1950's Elgin introduced a free sprung balance for its highest level of watches sold. The term free sprung describes the absence of an adjustment lever or regulator usually situated above the balance wheel. If you look closely at the photo of the movement, you will see the spiral pattern of the arms in the balance wheel, Elgin called their development the Durabalance. The other amazing feature of the watch is the fact that this movement uses 23 jewels and is adjusted to 6.... yes 6 positions!

The 23 jewel movement with Durabalance was also found on the first wristwatches to be approved as  Railroad grade, these were sold during the late 1950's and early 1960's.

For all the beauty and precision of the movement hidden away in the watch, the most enduring attraction is the appearance of the case and pink dial combination, it is unlike any other watches I have seen in a long time and at a relatively affordable price.

The watch measures 27 mm wide at its widest point and 35.5 mm long.
