Vintage Rolex Submariner Date watch, ref 1680 circa 1978
The Rolex 1680 is famous and sought after as it is mostly known as the Red Submariner. The truth is white text 1680 Submariners are probably harder to find in all original condition.
The vintage Rolex Submariner 1680 is significant as it was the first Submariner model made by Rolex to feature a date display.
The 1680 Submariner was introduced in about 1965 and continued production for some 20 years before being replaced by models with sapphire crystals.
This watch was manufactured in 1978 based on the serial number in the 5.7 million range. The 1680 Submariner is fitted with a Rolex calibre 1575 movement and uses an acrylic crystal.
The watch was just serviced by my Rolex trained watchmaker and has the original factory dial and set of hands installed. Please note the perfect light cream clour of the dial and hands tritium luminous.
The watch keeps excellent time and works flawlessly
The watch is fitted with a genuine Rolex heavy Oyster fliplock bracelet, ref 93150 with correct 380 endpieces. The bracelet is in excellent condition.
The Oyster case measures 40 mm wide by 47 mm long and is in extra fine condition with very fat lugs and sharp edges condition.
