Vintage Rolex Oyster ref 6422

A larger than usual vintage Rolex Oyster, measuring 35.5 mm roughly the same size as a Rolex Datejust

Vintage Rolex Oyster 6422, a manual wind over-sized steel watch.
The vintage Rolex Oyster reference 6422 is a larger than usual steel Oyster, roughly the same foot print as a Rolex Datejust but thinner as it is fitted with a 10 1/2 hunter manual wind movement instead of the automatic calibre 1570 found in a Datejust.
The dial is matte white, almost eggshell colour with thin arrowhead markers. The dial appears to have been restored some time ago and has an excellent light vintage patina. The watch is also fitted with those wonderful vintage Rolex dauphine hands. These have become an iconic style symbol, representative of watches dating from the 1950’s.
The 17 jewel, Rolex 10 1/2 hunter manual wind movement was just serviced and is running strongly. The actual calibre number of the watch is 1210. The basis of this another movements in the 1200 series, date back to the 1930’s. These were the same movements that received acclaim during World War 2 for their accuracy and durability.
Inside the steel screw back case, the back is double signed with 2 references, 6494 (which has been struck through) and 6422. This Oyster is actually the later, a 6422. The case back also has a date code stamped in it of the second quarter of 1957.
This watch represents a great value in a vintage Rolex Oyster. The steel case measures 35.5 mm wide by 42 mm long. The strap lug width is 19 mm.
