Vintage Heuer Autavia Viceroy chronograph
Heuer Racing Chronograph promotional watch, used in Viceroy tobacco advertising campaign.
This vintage Heuer Autavia has a unique history that I found truly astounding.
These models are refered to as Viceroy Autavia’s due to the promotional campaign of the cigarette manufacturer, Viceroy, who sold these watches at a discounted price of $88 in the late 1960’s as long as payment was submitted along with part of the cigarette packaging. The promotion was tied in with the company's Indy racing team sponsorship.
The all-original example comes with the original Heuer black dial with the correct script and hands. The case is marked 1163 V.This in one of the earliest modes in the series.
The watch is unusual in its condition, as many of these watches have badly scratched and damaged bezels. Other original features include the Heuer slotted pushers and Heuer signed crown.
The watch is fitted with the micro-rotor powered Heuer calibre 11 movement shared with Bulova, Breitling and other manufacturers. This watch was just serviced and is running flawlessly and keeping time.
The watch measures 42 mm wide by 47 mm long and is supplied on a period correct perforated racing strap.
