Vintage IWC Ocean 2000 reference 3504-01 divers watch. The IWC Porsche Design Ocean 2000 diver was sought after from the moment it was introduced in 1982. The Ocean 2000 combined the non-rusting Titanium with a level of style and technical sophistication that appealed to many. Even the German BUND, Military, adopted the IWC Ocean 2000 for its uses in a number of departments.
Designed by Ferdinand A Porsche, yes the same person who designed the iconic Porsche 911, the IWC Ocean 200 starts apart from the utilitarian designs of the time. Consider that the watch was water resistant to 2000 feet, the same as the Omega Seamaster 600 Professional divers watch.
There were two IWC Ocean models, the 2000 and a smaller Ocean 500, reportedly designed for women. This Ocean 2000 features a 3 piece titanium case with screw down case back. The titanium unidirectional bezel, features a serrated profile instead of marked minute markers.
The all original dial and hands are one of the best examples of a legible watch dial. The Matte black dial contrasts perfectly with the white painted hand frames. The bezel triangle, dial hour markers and hand tritium luminous compound match perfectly. They have aged to a stunning parchment light brown.
The watch is fitted with an IWC modified ETA calibre and was serviced in 2012. The movement features hacking seconds and a quick-set date. The watch was sparsely worn since service and at the time of service, there was not case polishing or case parts replaced. the watch is all original. Although the watch was pressure tested for water resistance, it has never seen water since 2012 and is not guaranteed water resistant.
This model IWC Ocean 2000 comes the matching titanium links bracelet. Having sized this bracelet in the past, I can attest to how easy it is to add and move links using the flat fork tool supplied with the watch. The watch also comes with the grey coloured cloth Velcro strap it was originally sold with This Velcro strap is in excellent condition with only minor signs of wear on it.
The watch comes with the original box, papers, manuals, hang tag, tools and even a cloth measuring tape used to size the bracelet. The original warranty papers are blank. The original previous owner was a German police officer who purchased the watch directly from IWC.
The watch has a serial number in the 25 million range dating it to the early 1990’s. This is an exceptionally clean and complete example of an IWC Ocean 200 with all the original trimmings.
The titanium case measures 42mm wide and the bracelet has all 26 links and is one of the most comfortable bracelets you are likely to wear.
