Vintage Heuer Bund Chronograph 1550SG

$7,500

This vintage Heuer chrono has to be one of the most under-rated watches at present. Consider its not enough that its a vintage Heuer chrono, but its also a genuine military issue watch, plus it has the flyback feature found on few mechanical chronographs. Top it off by understanding these were made specifically for the German military and not
About a decade ago i found a pair of military chronographs, these were also purpose built for a military request. Those watches were Omega RCAF chronographs. Those were single button designs and did not feature a flyback feature. Shortly after selling the world took notice and prices skyrocketed. Hard to say if this falls under the same scrutiny. One of the mitigating factors was Omega’s, theme auction at a major auction house following my sale of both pieces.
The watch is fitted with the iconic Valjoux calibre 230 manual wind movement. As mentioned earlier the movement also features a flyback function. This relatively rare feature allows users to the reset the timing feature without stopping the chrono function and not worrying about totaling the time elapsed. It just focuses on timing sectors or navigational legs.
This watch is fitted with all its original components, the crystal, bezel, pushers, crown and even the strap. You may recognize the two piece leather strap on this watch as the original BUND design. A bit of reading yielded some history of this unique strap. Originally designed in WW2 the leather pad that the watch sits on, acts as both an insulator against a freezing cold or scalding hot metal watch. It also raised it up off a sweaty soldier. This kept corrosive sweat off the case and moisture out of the movement. The leather backing has also protected the German military stock marking on the back of the watch.
This particular watch has been serviced and it functioning flawlessly.
The dial on this watch is perfectly aged and has matching tritium in the Arabic numeral markers as well as on the hour, minute and seconds hands.
The treated stainless steel case measures 42mm wide and is 13mm thick.
